Political signs: Read this before you stake your signage at Delta Coves

Election season is in full swing, with the presidential general election approaching on Nov. 5, and while the Delta Coves Community Life team fully supports resident involvement in the campaign process, there are some key dos and don’ts to know when it comes to political signage.

Whether you’re supporting your ideal candidate, proposition, or other ballot initiative, be sure you know the rules (Section 4.86) before staking your election signs in the neighborhood.

Political signs — signs that attempt to influence the outcome of an election — do not need approval to be posted, so long as the signs do not detract from the overall appearance of your home or the community.

Timing

Political signs may be displayed no more than 45 days and must be removed no more than 7 days after the election or vote.

Location

Political signs cannot be staked in common areas, the right-of-way, the area between the street and the sidewalk, lagoon zone — including deck and dock — nor on property owned by DCMC.

Quantity & size

Political signs cannot exceed 6 square feet (6 s.f.), and residents are limited to one sign per political office or ballot issue that is contested in the pending election.

Political flags

Political flags are also considered signage, so if you display a flag promoting a person, proposition, or other election cause, the content must follow guidelines posted in section 4.33.
