Topsider Talks with Janette Tomczak

As one of the first residents in Delta Coves, Janette has ventured out of her home and into the community-shaping place. Together with neighbors, she heads the Resident Potlucks and annual Holiday Boat Parade.

Tell us about yourself.

I have lived in California all of my life. I grew up in Pacific Grove and have lived in Moraga, Danville, and Roseville. I worked in sales for a health and beauty aid broker most of my career. As their regional sales manager, I travelled quite a bit. I had a lot of fun working tradeshows and loved display building and team encouragement meetings.

How long have you called Delta Coves home?

We have had our home here for five years. What was supposed to be a part-time home has become almost a full-time home. I still enjoy going back to our other house in Roseville though.

What do you enjoy most about living in Delta Coves?

Definitely the friendships that we have made — we’ve met so many wonderful people! We have a core group of friends that we travel with and do things with weekly. However, there’s an abundance of wonderful people here and I enjoy seeing all of them.

What are some of your favorite memories and traditions here?

The potlucks would be number one since that is a wonderful place to mingle with current and new friends. The Sundowner series, Duffy Days, Lagoon Concert, and Jingle Jog are all wonderful events. Also — our lighted boat parade at Christmastime.

What inspired you to move to Delta Coves?

We’ve always wanted to have a house on the water . We are boat lovers and enjoy taking our pontoon out from time to time — picking up friends going to lunch or just a cocktail cruise. We have a new surf boat I’m determined to try that our kids and neighbors seem to enjoy.

What do you think makes Delta Coves a great community?

Everything it has to offer — the views, the pool, the club room, the dog park, the pickleball courts, the gym and yoga studio. Now there are so many new clubs that residents have started. It’s truly wonderful!

What inspired you to start the resident potluck?

Our friend Terry Chew asked if we could set aside time every month to have a potluck and the association agreed. This was right up my alley and I  stepped right in to organize and plan, create themes, do raffles, hire music and make it a fun event. I soon talked to Karen into helping and together we have created some extremely fun times. Other neighbors — Jill, Bonnie, Linda, Gabe and more — help with the event, too.

What's your favorite thing about the potluck?

Just seeing so many people join in the fun and bring their favorite dishes to share. It really is a lot of work that goes into the planning and it’s exhausting at times but rewarding too! We aren’t doing them monthly anymore because there are so many other clubs it tends to get overwhelming. We will probably do seven or eight in 2026.

Do you have a favorite community event?

We enjoy getting involved with local events downtown in Bethel Island such as the events in the park, decorating our golf cart for the parade, and the yacht club charity cruise. On two occasions, I assisted in helping sell and promote ticket sales for two of our local Delta Coves neighbors to become queen and king of Bethel Island!

What are your favorite water activities?

We love to be out on our boats with family and friends. Lunch trips are great and we enjoy a trip to Bullfrog Marina to get my favorite Menchie’s ice cream treat.

What other clubs and activities are you involved with within the neighborhood or the Delta?

We are not members of any other club, but we do get involved with several of the activities. One of my favorite is the Yacht Club charity cruise dinner. This past year I made several baskets for them for their raffle. It’s a great event. Our neighbors Glenn and Nancy Hammond put in a lot of work for them.

What’s an interesting fact others might not know about you?

I love to paint! if I had more time, I would paint often. I also love to shop and decorate, but most people know that — haha!
