Dark neighborhoods, porch lights on, candy in little hands. Keep Halloween all treats and no tricks this year with these safety tips.
While trick-or-treating
- Cross streets at well-lit corners and cross walks.
- Look both ways before stepping off of the curb.
- Kids should travel with adults.
- Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or glow sticks.
- Carry a flashlight to help you be seen crossing roads.
- Only knock on doors with porchlights on.
- If a house leaves candy out, follow the instructions so more kids can enjoy the treat.
- Consider putting a gate up to keep pets from darting out every time you open the door.
Driving on Halloween
- Slow down and be alert for children darting into roadways.
- Take extra time when passing curbs and crossings.
- Enter and exit driveways and coves slowly.
- Pack up your phone so it’s not a distraction.
- Turn your headlights on earlier in the evening.
Stick with these guidelines to help keep the ghouls and goblins running amok safe on Halloween.
