So you want to add security cameras to the exterior of your home. Delta Coves Maintenance Corporation (DCMC) allows security cameras on all homes within the community — but asks that you stay within these guidelines and submit for design review before installation.
Security system guidelines
Cameras
Height: Security cameras need to be mounted 10 feet or less off the ground, or the eave height of the building — whichever is shorter.
Quantity: Up to eight (8) cameras can be used on the exterior of the home — including your docks and decks.
Color: Cameras, brackets and accessories must be black, dark bronze, or the same color as the house or structure they are mounting to — so they blend in.
Wires: Conceal cables and wires connecting the device from view. Consider using wireless devices to avoid the hassle of cables.
Location: Cameras may not be mounted on trees or vegetation in the front yard zone. However, homeowners can mount them on docks and decks as long as they follow the design guidelines (section 4.79).
Angles: Keep security cameras from pointing at adjacent properties. All cameras must comply with state and local laws regarding neighbor privacy.

Security signs
Security signage does not require design review approval as long as it follows the residential design guidelines (section 4.86(d)).
One sign — under one square foot in size — may be posted near the front door or in a front window. One additional security sign may be posted in the rear yard zone or on docks and decks.
Country registration program
Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department offers a voluntary security camera registration program. Through this program, officers may contact registered participants to view security footage if a crime occurs in the area.
Keep your home in good standing. Review the security camera guidelines and submit a design review application before installing your cameras. Reach out to Delta Coves’ Community Life team with any questions.
